Satellite Archaeologist Featured at TEDxLIVE@UCCI.

TED Prize winner Sarah Parcak will appear via a free simulcast at TEDxLIVE@UCCI between 8:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.

As a satellite archaeologist, Sarah Parcak finds lost cities under the ground using satellite imagery to pin-point the locations. On the Colbert Late Show, she compared her work a sif “Indiana Jones had a love-child with Google Earth. She has located 17 potential pyramids in Egypt, 3,100 missing settlements, and more than 1000 lost tombs. She has revealed the secrets of the Roman Empire and mapped an entire city in Egypt—all from her lab in Alabama, USA.

Using the latest in satellite technology, she performs archaeology from space and has won the $1 Million TED Prize for 2016. She will use the funds to help protect ancient sites and protect the world’s hidden cultural heritage.

TEDxLIVE@UCCI is a free, all-day simulcast of TED2016–a sold-out event in Vancouver Canada that costs US$8500 to attend. The simulcast will take place at UCCI on Tuesday, February 16th.

The simulcast will be set up in UCCI’s Professional Development Centre in Classroom #1, above the campus library. Although the simulcast will be running constantly throughout the day, attendees may come and go freely during the day of the event.
